Artist Statement
My artwork aims to evoke empathetic understanding in the viewer and investigate the roles objects play in people’s communications with one another. Recently I have concentrated on the ways people use plants and plant forms to convey emotions.
The history of human-flower interaction, as well as the history of porcelain manufacture in Europe–both of which were propelled by cultural designations of value–figure prominently in my research. Historical and contemporary practices including Ikebana flower design, landscape or garden design and product packaging also influence my artwork. |
